In the year 2000, the world leaders came together at the United Nations headquarters in New York and adopted a fifteen-year millennium development goal which was aimed to breach inequalities and disparities in wellness between the rich and the poor. Although a substantial progress was made after 15 years of the declaration, however the progress between the developing and developed nations has not been equal. The services and benefits that are taken for granted in most developed nations are lacking and inadequate in many developing countries like Nigeria of aprox. 192 million people, more than half of the population don’t have access to good and affordable health care services. This perhaps has been attributed to many factors where lack of good hospitals and brain drain are seen as the major risk factors (The doctor/patient ratio in Nigeria is put at 1:4250 as against the recommendation of 1:600 by WHO); thus, high maternal/child death (72.6 deaths per 1000 live births), high burden of preventable infectious diseases and low life expectancy at birth (53.02 years).

It is important to note that even though public health has triumph in eradicating some infectious diseases that emerged (smallpox), other infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, Ebola, Lassa fever, malaria and the most recent covid-19 have re-emerged. Therefore, it is imperative that we know and learn about these emerging and re-emerging diseases, extend the knowledge to others to live a healthier and prolonged life as a popular phrase says “PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE”.

Meet me

My name is Chukwuka Oluchi Anita. But you can address me as ‘Anita’. I am the one behind public health issues.

In my early years in the university, I made all the mistakes in the book and as a young and inquisitive person I crave to know why things happening around me happen.

I struggled to get information surfing through the internet but all I got was confusion. The amount of unnecessary and just plain wrong information made me more anxious.

At a time, I became fed up and I had to take the bull by its horn, a friend introduced me to scholarly and scientific papers to read up.

As a result of what I have learnt over the years I set up this website to provide evidenced based information to my readers.

Now……

MY VISION
